“Femininity equals power. Power is the expression of the feminine aspect.” -Ayesha K. Faines (R.I.P.)

Patriarchal Templates

Patriarchy is to Women what “white supremacy” has been to Black people, except patriarchy is a much older, deeply-ingrained system that is arguably more pervasive than racism. Patriarchy—an oppressive system in which men hold most of the social, political, and economic power based on the false ideology of male superiority and female inferiority—has created a deep imbalance in societies across the globe. Its consequences ripple through every aspect of life. As just one example, patriarchy has established gender norms and expectations using rigid constraints to define what it means to be a Woman and what it means to be “feminine” and “lady-like.” Women are expected and pressured to be submissive, selfless, agreeable, polite, and easygoing. This rigid, narrow standard is incongruent with most Women’s true nature, therefore limiting Women’s full expression of their potential and denying Women the freedom to explore and embrace their authentic selves. The patriarchal notion of femininity was designed to serve the male gaze, male ego, and male interests, at the expense of Women.

Women Are Agents Of Patriarchy, Too

When Women operate outside of the narrow, patriarchal prescription of femininity, they are punished. Domestic violence, street violence, bullying, and ostracism are overt examples of such punishment. Interestingly, men aren’t the only ones doing the punishing. Women punish other Women too, especially in more covert yet harmful ways. In fact, as an empowered, unconventional Woman, I receive more backlash from other Women than from men for defying the patriarchal template. I know other Women who also share my experience.

Due to Women being patriarchally programmed and not doing the self-work to break free from it, generally, Women are deeply insecure and lack personal power. Insecure, disempowered people say and do strange things. Couple this with the fact that many Women are emotionally expressive, making them susceptible to projecting their visceral discomforts onto other Women. When they see an empowered Woman saying and doing things they were programmed to believe that Women shouldn’t say or do, it elicits cognitive dissonance, jealousy, envy, and contempt. An empowered Woman's authenticity serves as a mirror to the disempowered Woman's inauthenticity, mediocrity, and lack of power. If the disempowered Woman is wise, though, she would seize this mirror experience as an opportunity for growth rather than contention. I am grateful to the powerful Women I've encountered along my Womanhood journey who served as models of authenticity and mirrors that led me to myself. Their mere presence played an integral role in my shift from being disempowered to powerful.

Women punishing other Women takes on many forms. It looks like sabotaging the job of their reserved female coworker who stays to herself and doesn't subscribe to their groupthink. It looks like calling a Woman mean for enforcing healthy boundaries, something most Women lack and need to learn. It looks like deeming a Woman as “masculine” for being opinionated, assertive, or independent. It looks like criticizing a Woman for being “boujee” because she wants the finer things in life. It looks like being offended by a Woman who thinks and speaks highly of herself, especially when said confidence is based in facts. It looks like telling a Woman she’s “too serious” for being resolute about her goals and standards.

All of these punishments are psychological and spiritual attacks on the Woman’s psyche and essence that keep Women "in their place," patriarchally speaking. These punishments instill shame and self-doubt in Women, hence why so many Women have shrunk themselves to avoid punishment. Ultimately, Women who punish Women for coloring outside of the patriarchal lines uphold patriarchy. They participate in their own oppression and the oppression of girls and Women across the globe. Don't be one of these Women.

Performative Femininity

Another way Women internalize and perpetuate patriarchal ideals is by promoting performative femininity. This is prominently seen in the influx of femininity platforms and femininity coaches that have proliferated across social media in the past few years. The gist of their efforts is teaching Women superficial femininity tactics in order to get a man: “Use a baby voice when speaking to your man.” “Pretend to be a damsel in distress.” “Wear a French manicure, never wear bright-colored nail polish.” “Slowly walk into a room and slowly glide off your sunglasses to appear mysterious.” I’m not saying that all of their tips are useless. My point is that their ideals don’t constitute femininity. They are teaching Women how to pretend. It’s manipulative and inauthentic. It’s cap. 🧢 Many Women are playing in someone else’s clothes.

I recall scrolling by a clip of a Woman teaching her female audience to always smile, be agreeable and friendly, have an open body language, and oblige to men when dealing with them. Her tips will get girls and Women robbed, kidnapped, and murked in the hood and in many other circumstances. Furthermore, many femininity coaches are dishonest about the outcomes of their femininity advice. A well-known femininity influencer, for example, built her platform by condemning Black Women for being "masculine," all while her gender ideologies have led her to yet another domestic violence relationship.

Most of these femininity influencers are ill-equipped to teach Women: They have not begun their self-work and addressed their traumas, they are nowhere near the path of self-mastery, they are out of touch with their authentic selves, they are still shackled by religious indoctrination, they have not deprogrammed from patriarchy, and they don't know shit about the truth of male nature. Many of them are lost Women repackaging and peddling outdated patriarchal tropes to an audience of lost Women, all while capitalizing off of their desperation and vulnerability. It is the blind leading the blind. A true coach or teacher leads you back to your authentic self, not pressure you to squeeze yourself to fit a one-size-fits-all template. Cultivating your authentic self requires deep inner work and a lifelong commitment to personal development and self-mastery.

The task of Women who want freedom, happiness, power, and prosperity is to defy patriarchy and return to her true, authentic self. Contrary to the one-size-fits-all femininity template that the patriarchy has foisted upon Women, the "authentic self" varies tremendously across the 4 billion Women on Earth. Every Woman is supposed to look, think, sound, dress, behave, and show up differently than the next Woman. This is the beauty of Womanhood.

Who are you, really, if patriarchy didn’t exist and TOLD you who you were? Be her.

What Is Authentic Femininity?

Today’s notions of Womanhood and femininity are distorted, false, and patriarchal. Contrary to popular belief, being feminine does not equate to being soft, sweet, delicate, pleasant, quiet, agreeable, beautiful, or docile, nor is it defined by a Woman’s affiliation with a man.

The feminine aspect is fluid, boundless, dark, and elusive. Femininity has everything to do with embodying the essence of God by operating as a Creator with the associated characteristics: Creative, destructive, powerful, decisive, intelligent, wise, and nourishing. Creativity is the hallmark of femininity. Moreover, femininity is choosing to express whichever version of her essence that she gat damn pleases. Women can be as soft (or not) as they want, but being soft or not soft doesn't define femininity. What makes a Woman feminine is wielding her autonomy and exercising her discretion to be soft or not soft from a place of power and wholeness, not from patriarchy, not from unresolved traumas, not from religious indoctrination, not from parents, not from peer pressure, and not from societal expectations.

To reiterate, HOW a Woman chooses to express her God-energy is completely up to her discretion. The expression does not define her Womanhood; exercising her power to choose makes her feminine. Some God-embodied Women are rough. Some are kind. Some are sexy. Some are playful. Some are quirky. Some are moody. Some are tomboys. Some are sweet as pie. Some are strict. Some are loud. Some are demanding. Some are big-ole-freaks. Some are quiet. Some are feral. Some are vengeful. Some are ALL there is. The truly God-embodied Woman is a masterful chameleon of HER OWN varied traits. She is what she needs and wants to be at any given moment and uses intelligent discernment in doing so.

Astrology As A Means To Authentic Femininity

Because Women have been socialized and programmed with distorted gender norms, Women must work to develop their authentic femininity. By authentic femininity, I’m referring to embodying and operating in your true, unique God-like power.

Fortunately, astrology is an invaluable tool that can be used to discover, heal, and reclaim your femininity and harness your unique feminine power.

Your astrological birth chart contains a few indications of your individualized, authentic femininity. For example, your Moon reveals your innermost needs, your nurturing style, and even your menstrual cycle. Your Lilith (Black Moon Lilith) points to your hidden untamed, independent, wild nature that the patriarchy forced you to suppress. Your Venus indicates how you express your femininity, what makes you alluring, the style of your aesthetic, and how you can best attract money and resources.

To comprehensively understand your authentic femininity, an astrology reading is needed to interpret your Moon, Lilith, and Venus in tandem with one another and within the context of your entire birth chart, including your houses, house rulers, planets, aspects, and degrees. I offer comprehensive astrology readings at Ninth House Consulting. However, understanding your Venus sign is one of the first steps to unlocking the full picture of your femininity potential.

What Is Venus?

Venus is the Roman goddess of love and beauty. In astrology, Venus reigns over all things enchanting: our desires, artistic expression, and how we navigate intimate connections. It also rules over material possessions, such as money, clothing, and furniture. Your natal Venus in your birth chart is an expression of your personal values, self-worth, resources, and method for attracting your desires. In short, your Venus represents how you "do Womanhood" if you are a Woman. In a man’s chart, his Venus indicates the type of Woman he likes.

How To Find Your Venus

To learn about your natal Venus, you’ll need to find it in your birth chart. Gather your birth date, time, and location (city and country) and enter this birth information into any birth chart calculator online. One of my favorites that I recommend to newbies is Cafe Astrology. If you don’t know your birth time, then select “unknown.” Find your Venus. The symbol looks like this: ♀

Look for the zodiac sign of your Venus. If you know you birth time, also look for the house in which your Venus resides.

More About Your Venus

Keep in mind that these generalized horoscopes are based on your Venus sign alone. A comprehensive analysis of your entire birth chart—including aspects and placements of other planets—is needed for a more accurate, nuanced portrait of your unique femininity. Book an astrology reading at Ninth House Consulting to gain deeper insights into your feminine expression.

For example, my Venus is in Libra. Although the above horoscope reflects my feminine essence, it only does so partially. This is because my Venus is located in an awkward house and is squaring multiple planets, including malefic planets. As a result, my Venus is colored by the personalities of each of those squaring planets. This dynamic attests to the challenging journey I've had with self-acceptance, self-love, and interpersonal relationships as well as with navigating my Womanhood and place in the world. Adding more complexity, my Lilith (Black Moon Lilith) also occupies Libra, making me a rebellious, feral version of Libra energy. This blog post is an expression of that. 😄

Lean into your Venus sign. If you’re a Capricorn Venus, don’t feel ashamed of being no-nonsense. If you’re a Leo Venus, revel in being adored and taking up space. If you’re a Pisces Venus, use your dreamy nature to manifest everything you desire. If you’re an Aquarius Venus, fully embrace the fact that you don't fit into this ass-backwards society.

Don’t let patriarchy make you betray yourself. Don’t let patriarchy rob you of your full expression. Unapologetically embrace your authentic femininity.
